Prince of Pinot2008 Tyee Estate Barrel Select Pinot Noir wins a spot in the Top 11 Oregon Pinot Noirs of 2011, All-Americans First Team from the Prince of Pinot. "Reserved but pleasing scent of fresh cherries and raspberries with a hint of spice and rose petal. The perfectly ripened fruit has a dark red profile, the dry tannins and crisp acidity frame the fruit beautifully, and the silky finish makes a lasting impression. A perfect argument for the superiority of old vine Pinot Noir. The wine was still great the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, but I couldn’t report beyond this as I eagerly finished the bottle. An exceptional wine that is much more approachable than many reserve Pinot Noirs from Oregon’s 2008 vintage. A vin de garde for Oregon in 2008." -www.princeofpinot.com BurghoundTyee 2008 Estate Pinot Noir and Tyee 2008 Estate Barrel Select Pinot Noir listed in Burghound.com's top 53 Oregon Pinot Noir Selections. Tyee 2008 Pinot Noir – Estate: "A perfumed, airy and very pretty dark berry fruit and violet-infused nose merges seamlessly into round, supple and suave medium-bodied flavors before culminating in a clean, pure, dusty and agreeably dry finish that delivers fine depth and length." 90 Points Tyee 2008 Pinot Noir – Estate Barrel Select: "A more deeply pitched nose offers greater complexity but at the cost of less aromatic elegance. The cool and equally pure middle weight flavors possess really lovely detail as well as a sophisticated mouth feel that terminates in a similar finish but here the ripe structure is just a bit firmer. Lovely juice." 91 Points
The Wine Advocate"2009 Tyee Estate Pinot Noir offers up a pleasing perfume of spice box, floral notes, and assorted red fruits setting the stage for a medium-bodied, sweetly-fruited, nicely balanced wine that offers excellent value in Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Drink this tasty effort over the next 5-6 years." - 89 Points
Beverage Testing Institute89 Points - Best Buy "Lightly smoky grilled pineapple, honeyed apple and nut aromas with a crisp, dryish medium body and a tart lemony finish. A nice Chablis-like wine." Prince of PinotAbout 2008 Tyee Estate Pinot Noir, from the August 2011 PinotFile, "A charming wine in every way. Enticing aromas redolent of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries with a hint of vanilla cone. Lovely array of crisply flavored red and blue fruits with a hint of herbs. Nicely structured with ripe, firm tannins and bright acidity finishing dry and satisfying. Amazing value. Very Good." Chuck Hill - Wines Northwest2008 Tyee Estate Barrel Select Pinot Noir is reviewed by Chuck Hill for his Pinot Noir with Copper River Salmon tasting. He writes, "Second-generation Tyee winemaker Merrilee Buchanan Benson crafted this reserve-style wine from grapes harvested from the oldest vines in the estate vineyard near Corvallis, Oregon. Finding an excellent balance between power and elegance, the wine offers aromas of cherry, strawberry and cranberry with notes of earth and hints of smoky oak. Flavors on the palate echo the nose with added notes of baking spices and black fruits. Excellent aging potential and a great accompaniment to salmon."
